We should compare our actions and thoughts with the commandments of Taras Shevchenko. Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement, speaking at the assembly dedicated to the 150th anniversary of reburial of T.Shevchenko in Kaniv.
V.Lytvyn stressed that T.Shevchenko taught how to unite the country to make it a powerful civilized state.
V.Lytvyn believes that on this memorable day, we should act as the Great Kobzar commanded. "Only if we are united, will we be masters in our home," he stressed. "We should talk about things which unite, not about discords."
V.Lytvyn calls for talking about people, villages, towns and state. "Despite the differences, we are united by the intention to make Ukraine as Taras Shevchenko dreamed of and suffered for," the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated.
V.Lytvyn attended the lite served by Metropolitan Sofronii of Cherkasy and Kaniv. He also laid flowers to the monument to T.Shevchenko on Chernecha Mountain.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, representatives of the President´s Administration and local authorities attended the ceremony in Kaniv.
